They already butchered The Unforgiven on Reload. Why the fuck would they want to do a third version of it?

That’s Right Dave, i think that with 2 Versions of Unforgiven is enough. Maybe in this one the unforgiven is not Unforgiven just Forgiven.

why everybody think that they are back in roots!!!!
didnt listen that the song the day that never comes is sounds like fade to black in the beggining and ends like ONE..!!!!!and have the same riffs in little bit different i dont know how to explain it…..

as i listen so far they copy them selfs!!!!!

i listen metallica since 1986 and is my favorite band and i will still listen and i will support them but i was expecting something more and heavyier…something between master of and …and justice albums…

    cyanide—didnt touch me at all

he-day-that-never-comes —– have a great intro i love it but later it sounds like faade to black one part in the solo and later sounds like ONE… i dont want that…

the other riffs is sound good but i canot say something…
as far as i listen with these 2 songs i didnt like it…..i want more i want metallica we all know ………..i hope the rest of the songs gonna be great and stick me back to the walls……..
    we ll see!

Prantjallica, use spell/grammar check. Metallica has always been here. They never “left” thus never have to return to any “roots.” All you haters, pack your bags, go home, and listen to the crap Slayer has put out. Slayer is so pigeon-holed in the death metal genre that their music is a farce. At least Metallica has morphed itself over time and pursue a diversity of themes and inspirations. Ah, wait a second, they have done that because they are freaking artists.

you’re a complete idiot. they never ‘left’? so load and reload and st. anger were all thrash? it definitely wasn’t speed metal, thrash metal, extreme metal, or even progressive metal. i will say that out of all the 80s thrash bands, metallica was always the most radio-friendly, but they still left what they were behind. they left who they were in ‘ethos’ behind more then anything.

just like the bands that influenced them especially the punk bands, they were a band from the streets that were defiant and had something to say about issues in an artistic manner. songs about religion, about war, about anti-conformity, about the wrongs in society. now there lyrics are haphazardly tossed off, and deal with very little. now they are the cherished darlings of the radio, and they tour with bands like Linkin Park, P.O.D., Kid Rock, Staind, Limp Bizkit, you get the picture.

you say Slayer is pigeon-holed in the death metal genre, so i guess you know very little about extreme metal. Slayer was a thrash band and are still a thrash band. their extreme version of thrash brought about death metal, but they are not death metal. possessed, early sepultura, morbid angel, necropagia, etc. are death metal. i agree that metallica unlike slayer has morphed over time, but metallica morphed into a radio-friendly band that aimed to please the masses. many of their early fans left them behind after …And Justice For All (many more after the black album). yes, they became a radio staple with the black album, and they changed. however many people would claim that they grew from metal to a commercial rock band, not necessarily more artistic (oh the sadness of working with Bob Rock). their first four albums, while being rooted in speed and thrash, were all completely different. there was much more artistry and growth shown in those four albums then anything since then. i mean seriously. the black album was just a toning down of the original style…nothing added to it artistically. load and reload didn’t grow…load was just completely different, and reload was it’s counterpart that sounded like they made everything all at once. st. anger? what was artistic about that pile of shit? so case in point, the four thrash albums were all completely different and showed more artistry (and they did this within the confines of one genre), then everything they have made since then.

i’m happy to hear them trying to reach back to a sound that they left behind 19 years ago, but at this moment, it just sounds tired and forced. the three songs that i’ve heard sound like they made this album because everybody expects them to play thrash again, but their hearts don’t sound into it.
